The Sakyong Fund

With the launch of The Sakyong Fund, which is under the direct guidance of Sakyong Mipham, we are committed to building a significant pool of capital dedicated to the support of Shambhala vision for many generations. When the fund reaches a half million dollars, the yearly investment income can meaningfully expand our impact, providing annual grants to support Shambhala projects and other humanitarian initiatives.

Each year, the Fund’s advisory board will recommend projects to the Sakyong for grant allocation. Approximately 50% will go towards a Shambhala project such as a retirement fund for senior teachers in the community (Acharyas) or to support children’s programming at local centers, and 50% will be granted to humanitarian projects such as the Foundation’s current initiative to build roads in a Tibetan refugee community in Orissa, India or to support the children of the Surmang region through the Konchok Foundation.

Over time The Sakyong Fund will magnetize gifts and bequests to create a legacy for the Shambhala community and beyond.

All gifts to The Sakyong Fund in 2012 will be matched by 50%.
