Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche

The Sakyong, Jamgön Mipham Rinpoche, is one of today’s most respected spiritual masters and leaders. Born in Bodhgaya, India, the Sakyong was raised in both the East and the West. He was educated in the United States and England, and trained extensively in Asia with many of the great meditation masters of the 20th century. Alexander Halpern

In 2000, Mr. Halpern opened his own law practice in Boulder. He specializes in the representation of non-profit, charitable organizations. Prior to that, Mr. Halpern was with the Boulder law firm of Caplan and Earnest, where he specialized in trials and appeals, with an emphasis on education and constitutional law. Mr. Halpern also continues to practice litigation as a public interest attorney in support of public education.
In 1990, Mr. Halpern became a member of the Board of Directors of Vajradhatu, now known as Shambhala. He served as Chairman of the Board from 1993 through 1999, and presently serves as Vice-Chair and General Counsel. He was a trustee of the Naropa University from 1990 through 2003 and has been a member of the board of directors of Shambhala Mountain Center since it was incorporated in 2001. Mr. Halpern is a founding member of the board of directors of The Sakyong Foundation.
Mr. Halpern received his juris doctor degree from the University of Denver School of Law in 1976.

Jesse Grimes

Mr. Grimes works as the Managing Director of Client Services for Highlander Wealth Services, a financial investment firm in Boulder, CO.  He is also the director of the Dorje Kasung, a volunteer service organization, which assists with the welfare and health of the international Shambhala Community.

Previously, Mr. Grimes worked for five years as a paramedic, until he changed career focus in 2005, applying his decision making and relationship building skills to the financial sector.  He is a member of the Board of Directors of Shambhala International and is a founding member of the Board of Directors of The Sakyong Foundation.  He traveled with Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche for two years as his attaché, overseeing communications and day-to-day activities.

Mr. Grimes received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Kinesiology from the University of Colorado in 1996. In 2000, Mr. Grimes graduated from the Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island’s paramedicine program, an affiliate of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Jeff Waltcher, Executive Director

Mr. Waltcher has been Executive Director of The Sakyong Foundation since its inception in May 2006.  From 1998-2006 he served as Executive Director of Shambhala Mountain Center, leading the development effort for this 600-acre retreat in the northern Colorado Rockies that is the flagship facility under Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche’s guidance.

Prior to that he held various leadership positions of early-stage companies in the computer software and telecommunications industries in San Francisco (1988-1997), and spent three years in New York managing a venture capital and leveraged buyout portfolio for New York Life Insurance Company (1985-1988).

Mr. Waltcher served as a member of the Board of Directors of Shambhala International from 1991-2001.

Mr. Waltcher received an MBA in finance from the University of Colorado in 1984.

Connie Brock

Ms. Brock comes to the Foundation with 30 years experience at Wells Fargo Bank in various management positions (including managing staff of over 100 people and just under $10 million in annual expenses).

Ms. Brock works closely with Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche as the Treasurer of Shambhala.  She also serves as a member of the Shambhala Trust and chairs the Finance Committee of the Sakyong’s Council.
