In July of 2008, The Sakyong Foundation launched a $200,000 matching grant campaign to benefit urban meditation centers throughout the international Shambhala community.

Ninety-four centers from North and South America, Europe and Australasia participated in the campaign to increase Centers’ capacity to offer programs and services. Individual donors at sixteen centers provided over $60,000 of additional matching funds in a donor-inspired Match the Match challenge.

Including the Foundation grant, over $650,000 of new funding flowed into urban centers in the next year allowing them to fulfill their mission on a greater scale – offering free public meditation, as well as diverse programs to help people of all traditions uncover their inherent sanity, gentleness and humor.
